About This Item
Two original chromoxylographs by Benjamin Fawcett after drawings by Alexander Francis Lyndon published in the Rev. William Houghton's "British Fresh -Water Fishes". London: William MacKenzie, [c.1879].
"Pollan/Powan" 10-1/5" x 15"
and
"Gudgeon/Barbel" 10-1/5" x 15"
Lyndon was a British illustrator and watercolour artist who collaborated with Fawcett on several projects. To ensure that the depictions of fish were as realistic as possible Houghton studied examples of fish housed in the British Museum and the background played an important naturalistic backdrop for each of the illustrations. Nissen, ZBI 2009.
