This is a massive, custom three-quarter leather bound volume of 169 issues of "THE YOUTH'S COMPANION" newspaper/magazine from the 1850's. Although the label on the front cover states "1852-1855," one issue from 1850 is included. "A Family Paper, Devoted to Piety, Morality, Brotherly Love - No Sectarianism, No Controversy." The Youth's Companion was a weekly magazine/newspaper published by Nathaniel Willis in Boston from 1827 to 1929. Each issue contains 4 pages and features an engraving on the first page. This is an early fishing book - "Days and Nights of Salmon Fishing in the (River) Tweed" by William Scrope, Esq. 1843 1st edition; John Murray; London. A complete set of what must have been one of the most impressive bibliographical publications of 19th Century France - indeed Europe. Copiously illustrated with facsimiles and colour reproductions, (many of which are fold-out and impressively large) of remarkable manuscripts and bindings throughout history. In contemporary 1/4 calf with raised bands and blue labels at one stage this set must have been particularly eye-catching but sadly time has taken its toll somewhat. In various states of condition ranging from Good/VG to Fair only. Most with substantial off-setting in places, many tissue-guards missing from the plates. Some occasional spotting and damp-staining to odd volumes but not terribly so. The bindings are overall in Fair condition with several split (and one entirely loose) backstrips and corners. Wear to tips, edges, and spine. Half-inch surface tear to cloth at foot of spine. Gift inscription on first blank end paper. Cloth has some spotting and fading.

Cox was clearly active in her high school years, as well as a dedicated archiver. From Football scorecards to newspaper reviews of Orchestras, the album contains three years of high school ephemera carefully preserved and annotated. Her membership in the Young Women's Christian Association, The Glee Club, and The Girl Reserves among many other clubs are all detailed.
