About This Item

New York:: Horizon Press, 1962.. Hardbound . BINDING/CONDITION: black cloth with gilt title; owner's name on the front endpaper; Good condition, with a Very Good dust jacket; publisher's price on the jacket flap is intact.. 4to (about 12 inches tall) . Notes to the plates, index to the plates. Description: 303 drawings are printed on glossy plates, printed double sided, with a brief caption next to each drawing; further notes on the plates are found at the rear. The publisher's blurb declares this book ''faithfully reproduces all details of his drawings as well as of the various kinds of paper on which they were dawn. To retain the quality of the often fragile originals, the greatest care has been taken to reproduce all the marks of the architect's work: his handwritten notes, erasures and corrections as well as the patches and tears that resulted from the constant handling of these original drawings in his daily work. These drawings include his designs for many houses, small and large, apartment and industrial buildings, skyscrapers, churches and hotels, museums and resorts, theaters and floating cabins, bridges and motels, community centers and observatories,, a sports pavilion, a self-service garage, a summer colony, a boat club, an amusement park. His drawings for the ideal city are also included, together with his unique design for the ideal motor car and helicopter.'' Note: there is no printing statement, and we find only the original copyright date of 1962; this is clearly a later printing (probably mid-1970s).
