A school binding of this biography on this eminent British Whig statesman, arch-rival of William Pitt the Younger. Charles James Fox (1749-1896) had a parliamentary career spanning some thirty-eight years. He opposed King George III, believing his intentions to be tyrannical, supported the American Patriots and was a noted anti-slavery campaigner and supporter of the French Revolution. He spent the majority of his career in opposition and served as Britain's first Foreign Secretary.Written by Sir George Trevelyan (1838-1928), a British statesman and author.With charming gilt detail to the spine, border and the gilt emblem of St Olave's School in Southwark. In a full calf binding. Externally very smart, slight fading to the spine and wear to extremities. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound, pages are bright and clean. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
