London: Wm. S. Orr & Co., 1846-47. New Edition. Hardcover. Very good. vi, [2], 415 p. 17 cm. Colour frontispiece, title page illustration and 16 other colour plates. B&w drawings within the text. Half green leather with marbled paper boards. Rubbing to boards, some edge wear. Bookplate on front pastedown, stain pp. 56-57. Illustrated title states 1847.

Charles McIntosh, gardener to Prince Leopold, the Duke of Buccleuch, and others, was at the cutting edge of 19th-century horticultural techniques and produced many books about gardening. First printed in 1838, this book gives advice on growing exotic plants in greenhouses, conservatories, orangeries, plant verandahs, etc.
