About This Item

New York: Boni & Liveright. Very Good in Very Good dj. (c.1920). 3rd printing. Hardcover. [good solid book, modest shelfwear, light staining/spotting to top of text block, vintage bookseller's label (The Old Corner Book Store, Boston) on front pastedown; jacket has a bit of paper loss at top of spine, extending slightly into the front panel, otherwise just minimally worn]. "A Novel of American Family Life," by this noted journalist, labor activist, and social critic. The New York Times: "It is concerned solely and entirely with the growing up of a small family of children and the trials, perplexities and mooted questions which the parents of those children faced every day of their lives in their effort to do the right thing by their offspring." Deeply involved in radical politics and feminism, Ms. Vorse also wrote romantic fiction for women's magazines of the day; as a journalist she reported on numerous strikes and other labor actions, including the Lawrence Textile Strike in 1912, the steel industry strike of 1919, and the famous Gastonia (N.C.) textile workers strike in 1929; the latter inspired her novel "Strike!" [NOTE that the "3rd printing" is stated only on the jacket; the book itself bears no printing designation.] .
