A smart first edition copy of this volume on the history of engraving, with 73 detailed reproductions of engravings. The first edition of this work in a half morocco binding. Illustrated with 73 reproductions of engravings. Collated, complete. Georges Duplessis (1834-1899) was a French historian of prints for the National Library from 1885 until his death. In this work, written in French, he provides a history of engraving in Italy, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, England and France. Charles Amand Durand (1837-1917), a French engraver, illustrated this work with reproductions of famous engravings. He was renowned for his ability to reproduce fine details of works by masters such as Rembrandt and Dürer. In a half morocco binding. Externally very smart, with minor rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean except for the occasional spot. Plates are age toned but otherwise in excellent condition. Very Good Indeed
