First published in 1852.Dated using Jisc, from copies of the work held at the University of Cambridge Libraries.Bound in full calf, a lovely example of Victorian gothic binding, with intricate embossing and pictorial design.The History of Henry Esmond' is a historical novel set against the backdrop of the English Restoration, telling the memories of Henry Esmond, a colonel serving for Queen Anne.Written by English novelist William Makepeace Thackeray, primarily known for his satires and parodies, criticising high society and the fickle aspirations of its members, such as profitability, marriage and power. Bound in full calf. Externally, very good, with slight rubbing to the extremities and joints. Inscription to the verso of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with the occasional handling mark. The odd small chip to the page extremities, with small cut to the title page. Very Good
