About This Item

New York: Barricade Books, Inc., 1995. This book was effectively banned in Britain, after (then) Prince Charles (now King Charles III) obtained an injunction preventing its publication. The author had worked for years for the Royal Family whose employees are prevented by law from writing about their experiences. An American publisher accepted Berry's memoir about Charles and Diana's troubled marriage and the book was published in the United States. Prince Charles obtained an additional injunction preventing Berry from profiting from the book, and Berry basically spent five years on the run outside the United Kingdom and earned hundreds of thousands of dollars from the book. An explanatory page in the book details the publisher's process for going ahead with publication despite the legal issues. The original dust jacket for the book - no jacket is included with this book - actually stated "Banned in Britain." 4th printing 8vo size hardcover with gilt titles on green cloth spine, no dust jacket; 186 pages plus a section of color snapshots by the author of Highgrove House, the staff and some Royals including Queen Elizabeth II; Diana, Princess of Wales and a young Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. Lightly bumped head and heel of spine; titles on spine are lightly rubbed. There is a deep scratch on front of book. . Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
