A nice first edition copy of the first poetry collection of Ralph Hodgson, including a letter from the author signed to Wilfrid Meynell. The first edition.Inscribed letter from the author tipped-in to the front paste down, 'Tuesday Jan 27/14, Dear Mr Meynell, Thank you for your letter, for I was not certain either if you expected me tomorrow. I shall be delighted to come, Sincerely yours, Ralph Hodgson'. Envelope addressed to Wilfrid Meynell Esq loosely inserted. Wilfrid Meynell was an editor and newspaper publisher, notably the father of the founder of the Nonesuch Press, Francis Meynell. Wilfrid was given the Westminster Press by Cardinal Manning, using it for his Catholic propaganda. The first poetry collection of Ralph Hodgson, containing a total of twenty-six poems.Including 'The Treasure-Box', 'In Fancy Fair', 'Beauty Sprite', 'The Final Dodo', and more.Hodgson was a popular pastoral Georgian poet, and great correspondent of fellow poets and literary figures, and notable Japanese figures, including Takeshi Saito.Two bookplates to the recto of the front endpaper, 'H. Bradley Martin' and 'J. O. Edwards'.Newspaper clipping of a photograph of the author to the rear paste down. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A small amount of loss to the tail of the spine. Spine is a little faded. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Author's letter tipped-in to the front paste down. Newspaper clipping tipped-in to the rear paste down. Two bookplates to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean. Very Good
