A charming set of poems presented by Adelaide Anne Procter, in beautiful morocco bindings by Hatchard, with gilt detailing. Volume I is the 1864 eighth edition, and volume II is the 1865 fourth edition.A collection of poems and lyrics, the majority of which were originally published in Charles Dickens' 'Household Words' and 'All the Year Round' periodicals. The poems are influenced by Procter's own religious beliefs, being a Catholic, as well as her charity works, such as homelessness, poverty, and fallen women. With the inscription of Susan L. Cavendish to a front endpaper of each volume, and the bookplate of Susan Louisa Foljambe to each front pastedown. Susan was the Countess of Liverpool, being the Second wife of Cecil Foljambe, 1st Earl of Liverpool.With the bookplate of Josceline Grove to the front pastedown of each volume.In lovely signed bindings by Hatchards. In a full morocco signed binding by Hatchards, with extensive gilt detailing to board perimeters and back strip. Fading to back strips, and head of front board of volume I. Bookplates to front pastedowns, and front free endpapers. Inscription to front blank of each volume. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Very Good Indeed
