First English edition (translated from the original Polish). 728pp. In orange cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. 8vo. Boards a little soiled at edges, rounded at corners and spine ends. Text block edges spotted. Lightly foxed on prelims. In its original paper dust jacket: soiled and rubbed, with a few mild marks, bumped at edges. Henryk Sienkiewicz is one of Poland's most powerful writers, awardd the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1905. The Teutonic Knights was originally published with the title The Knights of the Cross. A historical romance of the 14th century, with an introduction by Lord Vansittart.
