First U.S. Edition, both title pages dated 1906. Black cloth covers with white title labels on front and spine having Black print and red borders. Top page edges Gilt, other edges untrimmed. Vol. I, ii prelim/ 151 p.pages. Vol II, ii prelim/ 158 p.pages.
Booksellers penciled note on ffeps, no other inscriptions. Sloight edgewear and slight fraying at tops of spines. Vol II has specks of foxing, mainly marginal. Attractive set of a scarce edition.

Complete set of Jane Austen's brilliant 6 Novels bound in 5 volumes. From "Macmillan's Standard Illustrated Novels". In original publishers Red cloth covers with beautiful bright Gilt ornate decoration on fronts. The gilt decoration on spines is mostly faded. All page edges Gilt. Endpapers illustrated with a lovely deep yellow Peacock design. B&W Illustrations. Frontis illustrations all protected by tissue guards. Pride and Prejudice illustrated by Charles E. Brock and the other 4 volumes illustrated by Hugh Thomson.
First published betwen 1895 and 1897, Northanger Abbey is dated 1897 and the other 4 are 1898 reprints.
Spine colour faded. Some nicks and a littyle fraying at spine ends. Previous owner's inscription, dated 1899, on ffeps. and penciled bookseller note on back of ffep in Sense and Sensibility. No other inscriptions. Interesting newspaper cuttings from 1917 & 1918 on fly leaves of 2 volumes.

Five Lectures by the leader of the Pre-Raphaelite and Arts and Crafts movements: " The Lesser Arts", "The Art of the People", "The Beauty of Life", "Making the Best of It", "Architecture in Civilisation". Handsome period Brown Tree-Leather binding with 5 raised bands to spine. Gilt on brown title label in 2nd compartment. Gilt decoration on spine and narrow decorative gilt border on boards, Endpapers and all page edges marbled. Antique illustrated Booklplate with Armorial Bearing on endpaper and same owner's name on back of ffep, dated 1884. No other inscriptions. Pages in very good, clean condition. Leather has splits down sides of spine, some rubbing on spine and a corner of title label missing (Gilt lettering intact). Some wear to tips of corners.

Lovely B&W Woodcut illus of "The King's Poets" on preliminary page. Frontis Illus. is a monochrome Plate of Rossetti's "King Arthur's Tomb". Preliminary pages include Steele's Introduction, to page liii. 29 other Poems, including: Sir Galahad; A Chapel in Lyonesse; Rapunzel: Eve of Crecy, followed by Notes and Index. Attractive period Brown Full-Leather binding with bright Gilt Floral Design withing Gilt Linear margins on front & back. 5 raised bands to spine with Gilt title in 2nd compartment.
Some leather missing from spine ends (see photo) and a fine split down right side of spine. All page edges gilt. No inscriptions. Pages in very good condition.

Beautifully illustrated Edition in B&W. All MainText pages have text within large Illustrated Borders, also inset illustrations. Translated from the Latin by W. Benham, Vicar of Margate. Period Black Full-Leather binding with large Red & Gilt central cross on front and bright Gilt devices in corners on front & back. 5 raised bands to spine with bright Gilt foliate motif in compartments and Gilt title on brown ground. Beveled edges. Marbled endpapers. All page edges Gilt. Fine Gilt decoration on board edges.
Gift inscription on fly leaf dated 1876. No other inscriptions, pages in very good, clean condition. Splits to leather down sides of spine, wear at edges of corners and some rubbing to spine. Very small piece of leather missing at top corner of spine. Hinges broken but text block firm.

Period Green cloth cover with blind-embossed decoration on front & back & horizontal divisions on spine. Yellow endpapers. Closed tear to cloth down right side and partway down left side of spine. Inges cracked. Old penciled price on ffep, No other inscriptions. Pages and Plates in very nice condition.

From "Bohn's Illustrated Library". Complete with large Fold-Out Map by Lowry, 35" x 20", at the back. Title page dated 1854. Former Editions of this title were published as "London and it's vicinity exhibited" and "A new survey of London". Frontis. illus. "The Great Conservatory and Grounds at Kew". Very detailed and interesting work, now a Local History. Well illustrated with many Architectural Drawings. Other illustrations include the Times vertical printing press. Intersting section on Observatories (pages 630-697) has illustrations of the instruments and the buildings and includes the Radcliffe Observatory, Oxford. Also a section on the Thames Tunnel with technical Drawings. Rebound in Red cloth with dull gilt title on spine. Fore edge of pages up to title page a little ragged at edge.
