First U.S. Edition, both title pages dated 1906. Black cloth covers with white title labels on front and spine having Black print and red borders. Top page edges Gilt, other edges untrimmed. Vol. I, ii prelim/ 151 p.pages. Vol II, ii prelim/ 158 p.pages.
Booksellers penciled note on ffeps, no other inscriptions. Sloight edgewear and slight fraying at tops of spines. Vol II has specks of foxing, mainly marginal. Attractive set of a scarce edition.

Description:
Complete set of Jane Austen's brilliant 6 Novels bound in 5 volumes. From "Macmillan's Standard Illustrated Novels". In original publishers Red cloth covers with beautiful bright Gilt ornate decoration on fronts. The gilt decoration on spines is mostly faded. All page edges Gilt. Endpapers illustrated with a lovely deep yellow Peacock design. B&W Illustrations. Frontis illustrations all protected by tissue guards. Pride and Prejudice illustrated by Charles E. Brock and the other 4 volumes illustrated by Hugh Thomson.
First published betwen 1895 and 1897, Northanger Abbey is dated 1897 and the other 4 are 1898 reprints.
Spine colour faded. Some nicks and a littyle fraying at spine ends. Previous owner's inscription, dated 1899, on ffeps. and penciled bookseller note on back of ffep in Sense and Sensibility. No other inscriptions. Interesting newspaper cuttings from 1917 & 1918 on fly leaves of 2 volumes.

Gilt decoration on spine and narrow decorative gilt border on boards, Endpapers and all page edges marbled. Antique illustrated Booklplate with Armorial Bearing on endpaper and same owner's name on back of ffep, dated 1884. No other inscriptions. Pages in very good, clean condition. Leather has splits down sides of spine, some rubbing on spine and a corner of title label missing (Gilt lettering intact). Some wear to tips of corners.

Beveled edges. Marbled endpapers. All page edges Gilt. Fine Gilt decoration on board edges.
Gift inscription on fly leaf dated 1876. No other inscriptions, pages in very good, clean condition. Splits to leather down sides of spine, wear at edges of corners and some rubbing to spine. Very small piece of leather missing at top corner of spine. Hinges broken but text block firm.
