New York: Wm. C. Bryant & Co, 1862. Paperback. 8vo. Wrappers. 30pp. Good. Internally sound (some soiling to several pages), but outer wrappers soiled and a bit edgeworn. At a banquet honoring British member of Parliament Bright (1811-89), both Bright and his 1846 comrade-in-arms in repealing the corn laws, Cobden (1804-65), offer speeches supporting the Union cause. First edition. SABIN 14037.

N.p.: N.p., 1856. Paperback. Small 4to. Self-cover. 8pp. Very good. Slight overall age toning, mainly to outer wrappers; occasional light foxing. Interesting compilation of extracts from Congressional speeches "by Southern members, in which is avowed the purpose... of dissolving the Union and overturning the existing Federal Government." Slavery and the fugitive slave law crop up often, and the troubled author concludes: "The shadows, sir, of the COMING STORM already darken our pathway. It will soon be upon us WITH ALL ITS FURY." Not in Sabin.

N.p.: N.p., 1864. Paperback. 8vo. Self-cover. 8pp. Very good. Cover a tad soiled and age toned, else clean and attractive. Text of Naglee's September 27, 1864 letter to William D. Kelley. Pages 5-8 consist of "Second Chapter from the Secret History of the War," Naglee's October 6, 1864 letter to Kelley. Not in Monaghan, but just as cryptic bibliographically and clearly a variant of some sort. (Interestingly, Monaghan mentions "A Chapter from the Secret History of the War" and "First Chapter from the Secret History of the War" as variant titles -- but never any "Second Chapter.") Unusual. DORNBUSCH 51720 note (where a publication year of 1862 is mistakenly hazarded).

Philadelphia: King & Baird, 1866. Paperback. Small 4to. Stiff tan wrappers. 14pp. Very good. Bit of soiling to outer wrappers, else tight and nice. Collis, a colonel with the 114th Pennsylvania Infantry, published this collection of documents regarding the character of one Frederick Fernandez Cavada (1832-71) to protest Cavada's appointment as United States Consul at Trinidad de Cuba. Cavada was cashiered for "behav[ing] himself in a cowardly manner in the presence of the enemy, by absenting himself from the battle-field" at Fredericksburg, but was reinstated. Cavada displayed similar cowardice at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, but resigned before he could be tried. Whether the publication of Collis's pamphlet affected Cavada's Consul appointment we have not been able to determine. Most unusual. First edition. DORNBUSCH I, P 275A. SABIN 14457.

No publication date given, preface dated 1900. -- A narrative of the campaigns and battles of Berks and Bucks Counties' artillerists in the War of the Rebellion, from the Battery's organization, September 24, 1861, to its muster out of service, June 13, 1865. -- Includes drawings, portraits, maps, photos, list of battles, itinerary, roster. Hardcover, 265 pages, cover with gilt decorations, two ownerships. Condition: good only (hinge cracked and some pages taped or loose; cover lightly worn; text corner bumped). Complete, with all plates.

United States Army, 1863. One sheet of paper backed with an attached second sheet, two horizontal folds, one vertical fold, fragile yet Very Good, sheets separating at folds., light age toning. Discharge papers for Thomas Fulford, a private in Company B, 64th Regiment Infantry, Indiana Volunteers, dated Sept. 30, 1863 at St. Louis, Mo, by reason of Surgeon's Certificate of Disability. In left margin, handwritten in red ink, "Phthisis-hereditary-developed by exposure. He is unfit for the Invalid Corps". Signed at bottom "By Order of Maj. Gen. Schofield" and then signed "J.K. Hudson" with more writing below, illegible. Stamped in red ink "paid by Robert Smith St. Louis Oct. 2 1863 Paymaster U.S.A." The first edition with errata slip glued in on the spine side only. Contains casualties and losses for both the Union and Confederate Armies. There is a statistical table for each battle fought during the civil war. Spine is split at the front with ffep laid in. Also split at the back. Book is complete. No dust jacket. Very Good Minus, edges rubbed, gilt at spine dulled yet sttill legible, title and front end pages starting to separate from text block, soiling and a few pages with marginal notations and underlining in pencil. George H. Thompson served in the 3rd Indiana Cavalry, serving as a Captain until June 24th, 1864, when he was promoted to Major, a rank he carried until the end of the war. The 3rd saw action at Antietam, Gettysburg, Battle of the Wilderness, and Cold Harbor among many others, and there are monuments at Antietam and Gettysburg to the regiment... Fifth Edition. Cloth. Dust jacket is Not price-clipped.This very in-depth volume on the assassination of President Lincoln and the days afterward until he was buried has loads of great original photographs and very interesting text. The book's dust jacket is in fair condition with very extensive edge wear, missing pieces off the top edge, many small tears and some repaired larger ones, worn areas on all four corners but the front and back outside of the edges are both in very good condition. The interior book has worn areas on all four corners, some soiling along and on the spine, but the interior of the book, however, has no visible extraneous markings or other distractions and thus has all printing and photographs in a very well preserved and enjoyable condition.This volume will be carefully wrapped up and padded and then boxed and sent right away to you from here in New Jersey and will come to you with our utmost gratitude for your interest and for your order.

Baltimore: William H. Purnell, 1866. Pamphlet. Good. 7 p.; 23 cm. In March 1866 William H. Purnell (1826-1902), who had been appointed postmaster of Baltimore by President Lincoln in 1861, was up for confirmation to a post, possibly assessor of internal revenue for Baltimore. The only objection to him was a charge that he had made a speech at a Democratic and Conservative meeting in Oct. 1865. He offered this reply, explaining how he happened to be present when a speaker denounced President Johnson for his actions toward the southern states after the Civil War ended and consequently intervened to prevent violence. He also offered a statement covering his vigorous support for the Union during the war. Scarce. In Good Condition: soiled and creased; closed 1-cm. tear from fore-edges; solid.

Live and Services of Gen John A Logan as Soldier and Statesman. By George Francis Dawson, Ex-Librarian of the United States Senate, etc. Published by Subscription Only.
