New York: Harper & Brothers, 1939. Stated Fourth Edition 8vo size pictorial hardcover; 260 toned, deckle edged pages with color frontispiece and some black and white illustrations throughout. Color patterned endpapers feature strawberry, leaf and flower in blue and white. Lovely vintage bookplate on fep has Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio and others near and open book on a bookshelf. Owner's name below. Bumped head and heel of spine and worn corners. Pages 242/243 and 246/247 look as if they were not cut by the publisher and were trimmed subsequently, with page 243 and 247 overhanging the other pages slightly. Binding appears a little loose at pages 152/153 where you can see the webbing through the stitches, but there are no loose pages. Exterior of each volume shows some bubbling of the binding material as well as abrasion and wear to edges and spines and some mild spine creasing. Slip case is worn away all along the top edges, has bumped corners, and is split along the top rear. Overall, solid, clean copies showing some signs of wear. Interiors beautiful!
