This unique volume of 19th century Australiana is based on the legacy of two remarkable women both married into the Campbell family. Sophia Palmer came to NSW in 1800 aged 23 and married merchant Robert Campbell a year later. Wharf House was Sophia's beloved home and here she set out to sketch and paint the harbour and the barracks. Sophia's daughter-in-law was Marianne Collinson Close who was born in 1827 and lied at Morpeth. Marianne married Robert Campbell's son George and in 1860 settled in Duntroon, the family estate on the Canberra plains. Here she established her garden and plant house and painted fine landscapes and handsome arrangements of Australian flowers. 30 colour plates. 128 pages.
