On February 24, 1815, the lookout at Notre-Dame de la Garde signalled the arrival of the three-master Pharaon, coming from Smyrna, Trieste and Naples.
First edition identification
The most common English translation was originally published in 1846 by Chapman and Hall. This was originally released in ten weekly installments from March 1846 with six pages of letterpress and two illustrations by M Valentin.
Chapman and Hall, London, released a 2 volume set of the translation in May 1846, featuring twenty illustrations.
