About this book
“Harry Potter is a wizard. He is in his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It's always a relief after summer with the Dursleys, however, Harry doesn't realize that this year will be just as eventful as the last two! The atmosphere at Hogwarts is tense. There's an escaped mass murderer on the loose, even the Muggles have been warned. The sinister prison guards of Azkaban have been called in to guard the school and Harry, Ron and Hermione rapidly discover why all witches and wizards live in fear of being sent to Azkaban. Lessons, however, must go on and there are lots of new subjects in the third year - Care of Magical Creatures and Divination among others. Plus the delights of Hogsmeade, the only village in the UK entirely populated by the magical community” (from Bloomsbury’s website).

Reader reviews for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Review summary
Readers largely praise Prisoner of Azkaban as the first Harry Potter novel that feels more mature, with richer worldbuilding and a sharper mystery. New figures—especially Remus Lupin and Sirius Black—are singled out as standouts, and many note the book’s deft blend of humor with a darker atmosphere, plus memorable elements like the Marauder’s Map and Hogsmeade. Audiobook performances by Jim Dale and Stephen Fry draw repeated acclaim. Criticisms center on pacing—the long school-year build followed by a rush of explanations—and the Time-Turner, which some find convenient or contrived. A minority found it formulaic or slow, but overall sentiment is strongly positive, with many calling it their favorite so far.
