Reader reviews for The Shining Light

From the publisher

Life in the big city was comfortable for Worth and Abbie Roon. But as with so many others at the turn of the 19th century, the promise of land and a new life in the West was a shining light that beckoned, illuminating hearts and imaginations. For Worth it was simple: Sell! Move West! Homestead! For Abbie the issue was more difficult, though loyalty won and she willingly embraced his dream as her own.And indeed, Saskatchewan was verdant and lovely, a land to be prized. But it was also harsh. Even as it promised, it threatened. Worth and Abbie knew well that it would be a struggle to carve out this new existence in a territory where the summers were short and toilsome and the winters were long and lonely. They also knew that together they could overcome any adversity. But can Abbie hold on to the dream alone? Where is God's fight when everything seems so dark?

About the author

Ruth Vogt Glover was born and raised in Canada's central Saskatchewan bush country, of which she writes in this in-spirational frontier romance novel, The Shining Light. 'The book is placed in the small farms of Donny-brook, the school district where I was bornnear Mac-dowall and Prince Albert, ' she explains. 'It was a hard life for adults, but for me as a child it was close to bliss. It is a wonderful place.' The author moved to Vancouver, Wash., in her late teens. It was in Vancouver she met Hal Glover, who fin-ished his term in the Army and married Ruth in 1940. The couple attended Pasadena College (now Point Loma Nazarene College) together, where Rev. Glover earned a master of arts degree. He has pastored churches in California and the northwestern United States for many years, while Mrs. Glover has pursued her love of Christian writing. That love has resulted in contributions to over 50 Christian publications, including the Christian Standard, Decision, the Herald of Holiness, Home Life, Light and Life, the National Christian Reporter, Standard, the Sunday Digest, Vital Christianity, War Cry, and the Wesleyan Advocate.
