Mohawk homelands once covered much of northeastern New York and southern Quebec. Today most Mohawks live on reserves in Canada and reservations in the northeastern United States. The Mohawks founded the six-nation Haudenosaunee Confederacy, ending years of war among several Native tribes, and were among the first Native groups to come in contact with the Europeans. This book explores how the Mohawks managed to keep their identity and customs and how they continue to fight for their rights as an independent nation today.
