Two nearly identical van Eyck paintings have presented extremely thorny and complex issues for art history. An ocean separates the paintings, with one in the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the other in the Galleria Sabauda in Turin, Italy, but they share a legacy of questions. Concerns about their origins, attribution, dating, iconography and related geology remain.This book was published on the occasion of their respective restorations. Research from technical and historical perspectives by scholars provide a broader dais to view these precious works. A book as intriguing and beautiful as the subject it contains.
