About the author

John Johnson (1916-1996) of Strange Creek, Braxton County, West Virginia was a legendary man of many talents. He was a master of many manual trades, had an enviable reputation as an athlete and strong man, and was an accomplished poet and painter, as well as a musician. Johnson recorded the songs of "Strange Creek Fiddling" at the age of 31.
