Reader reviews for The Dayuma Story: Life Under Auca Spears

From the publisher

The Dayuma Story: Life Under Auca Spears is a biographical book written by Ethel Emily Wallis. The book tells the story of Dayuma, a young indigenous woman from the Huaorani tribe in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador. Dayuma's life is transformed when she is kidnapped by members of the neighboring Waodani tribe, also known as the Auca people. Initially frightened and unsure of her fate, Dayuma eventually learns to adapt to her new surroundings and becomes a valued member of the Waodani community.Through Dayuma's experiences, the book offers insight into the culture and way of life of the Huaorani and Waodani tribes, as well as the challenges faced by indigenous communities in the Amazon region. The book also explores the impact of Christian missionaries on the Waodani people, and the tensions that arise between traditional beliefs and Western religion.Wallis based her account of Dayuma's story on interviews and conversations with Dayuma herself, as well as with other members of the Waodani and Huaorani communities. The book is a fascinating and thought-provoking read for anyone interested in indigenous cultures, anthropology, or the history of Christian missions in the Amazon region. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
