Reader reviews for Godfrey Of Bulloigne: Or The Recovery Of Jerusalem (1845)

From the publisher

Godfrey of Bulloigne: Or The Recovery of Jerusalem is a historical epic poem written by Torquato Tasso in 1580. The poem tells the story of the First Crusade and the Christian capture of Jerusalem from the Muslims in 1099. The main character, Godfrey of Bulloigne, is a noble knight who leads the Christian army to victory. The poem is divided into twenty cantos and is written in ottava rima, a form of poetry consisting of eight-line stanzas with a rhyme scheme of ABABABCC. The language is ornate and formal, typical of Renaissance literature. The book was translated into English by Edward Fairfax in 1600, and this edition was published in 1845. The translation is considered one of the best in English and is still widely read today. The book includes a preface by the translator, as well as notes and annotations to help readers understand the historical context and literary references. Godfrey of Bulloigne: Or The Recovery of Jerusalem is an important work of literature that has influenced many subsequent works, including John Milton's Paradise Lost. It is a vivid portrayal of medieval chivalry, religious fervor, and political intrigue, and is a must-read for anyone interested in epic poetry or medieval history. Two Volumes In One.
