Reader reviews for On Fractures

From the publisher

On Fractures is a medical text written by the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, often referred to as the father of Western medicine. The book is a comprehensive guide to the treatment of bone fractures and dislocations, and it is considered one of the earliest works on orthopedics. In the book, Hippocrates describes various types of fractures and their causes, as well as the signs and symptoms of each type. He also provides detailed instructions on how to examine and diagnose fractures, and offers a range of treatment options, including immobilization, traction, and surgery. Throughout the text, Hippocrates emphasizes the importance of careful observation and accurate diagnosis, and he stresses the need for gentle handling of injured limbs to prevent further damage. He also discusses the role of diet and nutrition in the healing process, and offers advice on how to care for patients during their recovery. On Fractures is a significant work in the history of medicine, and it remains relevant today as a valuable resource for orthopedic surgeons and other medical professionals. The book is written in a clear and concise style, and it reflects Hippocrates' commitment to the principles of evidence-based medicine and patient-centered care. When the third day arrives, that is to say, the seventh from the first dressing, if properly done, the swelling in the hand should be not very great; and the part which has been bandaged should be found more slender and less swelled at each time, and on the seventh day the swelling should be quite gone, and the broken bones should be more readily moved, and admit of being easily adjusted. And if these things be so, you should, after setting the fracture, apply the bandages so as to suit the splints, and a little more tight than formerly, unless there be more pain from the swelling in the hand. When you have applied the bandages, you must adjust the splints all around the limb, and secure them secure them with strings so loose as just to keep them in their place, without the application of the splints contributing at all to the compression of the arm. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
