Sect. 31. The said keepers of any of the gaols and houses of correction, within this commonwealth, their deputies and assistants, in case any of the said offenders shall escape from confinement without the knowledge or consent of the said keep ers, deputies or assistants, shall forfeit and pay the sum of ten Penalty for pounds, to be recovered and applied in manner aforesaid: gig? Prism Provided, That nothing in this act contained shall be deemed or taken to extend to escapes voluntarily suffered by any such keepers of the said gaols or work houses.
