About the author

Michael Quinn Patton is an independent applied research and evaluation consultant with more than 40 years of experience. He is a former president of the American Evaluation Association and recipient of its highest awards: the Alva and Gunnar Myrdal Award, for outstanding contributions to evaluation use and practice; and the Paul F. Lazarsfeld Award, for lifetime contributions to evaluation theory. He was on the faculty of the University of Minnesota for 18 years where he received the Morse-Amoco Award for innovative teaching. A winner of the University of Minnesota storytelling competition, Patton has written numerous books, including Creative Evaluation, Practical Evaluation, Utilization-Focused Evaluation, Developmental Evaluation, and Getting to Maybe: How the World Is Changed. Patton teaches workshops for The Evaluators′ Institute, the American Evaluation Association (AEA), the International Program in Development Evaluation Training, and the Professional Development Workshop Series in Evaluation and Applied Research Methods at Claremont Graduate University.
