From the publisher

IDW's The Library of American Comics invite you to (g-gulp!) (chuckle), (sigh!!), and (*moan*) like a real Dogpatcher at all the fun and excitement in Volume 3 of The Complete Li'l Abner! Enjoy breakneck comedy in these daily and full-color comic strips from 1939 and 1940, as Al Capp spoofs the movies Topper and The Grapes of Wrath, sends Lonesome Polecat and Hairless Joe to New York, armed with a fresh batch of Kickapoo Joy Juice, gets Adam Lazonga, the world's greatest lover, to give lessons in how to woo a gal "Dogpatch-style," and stages a battle for the ages as Mammy Yokum throws down against mean ol' Mother Ratfield! Eisner-winning editor and designer Dean Mullaney and writer Bruce Canwell continue to examine this slice of pure Americana, including a look at Li'l Abner's first appearance in the movies! -

About the author

Al Capp (1909-1979) was born Alfred Gerald Caplin in New Haven, Connecticut. He created Li'l Abner in 1934. In addition to the enormous popularity of his comic strip, Capp was arguably the most famous cartoonist of his generation. He was a frequent and outspoken guest on 1940s and '50s television. The prolific satirist also wrote a syndicated newspaper column, had his own syndicated radio show, and was a frequent guest lecturer at campuses nationwide, a sideline that created a firestorm late in his career. Capp retired Li'l Abner in 1977 after a 43-year run, and died two years later.
