Description:
Melbourne: Text Publishing, 1994. Paperback octavo, very good condition, black & white text-photos, pages faintly toned as usual, spine minimally creased. minor edgewear. 305 pp. Jabiluka is an uranium mine set in the beautiful Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory. Tony Grey, a former lawyer, is the founder of the mining company Pancontinental that discovered the rich Jabiluka uranium deposit. He relates an adventure story in one of the world's last frontiers, and gives an insight into the key social, political and corporate battles of the last two decades (fending off xenophobic nationalism, political hypocrisy, passionate social activists, and corporate predators). Grey later became a passionate supporter of nuclear energy, but also recognised balancing that with the rights of the Aboriginal traditional owners and environmental protection. Along the way, he meets many characters, including truculent politician Rex Connor and tribal elder Big Bill Niedjie.
