Edward Everett Hale (1822 – 1909)

He was a child prodigy, and graduated from Boston Latin School at the age of 13, immediately enrolling at Harvard College. He graduated second in his class in 1839 and went on to study at Harvard Divinity School, becoming a pastor. He published a short story, "My Double and How He Undid Me," in 1859 in Atlantic Monthly, soon publishing more stories in the same periodical. His best known work, "The Man Without a Country" was published in 1863 and intended to strength support for the Union cause in the North.
