New York: Poseidon Press, 1987. Advance Reading Copy (ARC) . Trade Paperback. Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. This is the limited Advance Uncorrected Proof state - not quite the same as, but often referred to as an Advance Reading Copy, or ARC - fast becoming an attractive "collectible", as it precedes the First Edition. This trade paperback appears to have the same size page-block as the subsequent hardcover First Edition. It's Campbell's second novel featuring the down-on-his-luck detective Whistler, set in a dark, sleazy Los Angeles. "Here we find Whistler staring out the window of his favorite coffee shop, watching the freak show and waiting for a miracle, when into his life steps Nell Twelvetrees, looking for a bodyguard." 279 pages. CONDITION: a solid, square, unmarked copy with minimal shelf-wear, compromised only by a touch of sunning on the spine, a light bump to the rear corner of the spine top, and a gentle bend (not quite a crease) at the bottom of the front cover (see accompanying scan image). This attractive, collectible copy is now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag.
