About This Item

London: Hutchinson & Co., 1927. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 8" by 5.5". Not Stated. A scarce first UK edition copy of Haggard's final novel to feature his popular recurring character Allan Quatermain. A scarce first UK edition of this work in the publisher's original red cloth binding, with black lettering to the front board and spine, and white end papers.Allan and the Ice-Gods is H. Rider Haggard's fifteenth and final Allan Quatermain novel to be published, although the events of the novel Allan Quatermain occur after it. Based on an idea given to Haggard by Rudyard Kipling, the story details a variety of adventures centering on Quatermain's past life regression to a Stone Age ancestor. Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was an English author who specialised in adventure fiction set in exotic locations, primarily Africa. He was a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. With the printer's imprint 'Printed by the Anchor Press, Ltd., Tiptree, Essex, England' to page 287 and a sixteen-page publisher's catalogue for Spring 1927 to the rear. All issue points correspond with Scott, 83. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with fading to the spine. Spine is slightly cocked. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with some spotting to the first and last few pages, and to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page. Very Good
