Joseph Jefferson was an American actor. Born to a family of actors, he was a popular comedian of the nineteenth century best known for his portrayal of Rip Van Winkle, a role which he performed across the globe. Lavishly illustrated throughout with portraits. Ownership bookplate of John C. Eno to the front pastedown. The first edition of this work. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generlaly smart; blind stamping to the boards is a little discoloured, with some wear to the head of the spine. Cloth is discoloured. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, binding is generally firm, with a strain to the front hinge after the front blank. Pages are uncut and bright and clean, with just the odd spot. Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
