Larry Gelbart (1928-2009) was an American television and screen writer, playwright, director and author, known for M*A*S*H and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Tootsie, and others. Gelbart is mentioned several times in the text and in the author's Acknowledgements ("Larry Gelbart furnished me with a great deal of material and gave me considerable insight into comedy writing, and I appreciate his doing it.").
