About This Item

London: Eveleigh Nash & Grayson, 1927. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5.5". None. An English edition of Julia Peterkin's work detailing the plantation South of the United States. 'Black April' tells of an African-American foreman working on a plantation.Julia Peterkin (1880-1961) was an American author hailing from South Carolina. Her works made her an unusual Caucasian author as they focused on the African-American experience of plantations. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1929 for the novel 'Scarlet Sister Mary', a work which caused some controversy in the South. This is an English edition of this work, released the same year as the first American edition. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generally smart, a chip to the head of the spine, which is a little faded, and some slight general wear. Internally firmly bound, pages are a touch age toned but otherwise clean. Very Good
