New York: George H. Doran, 1914. HB. Red cloth, black lettering on front cover and spine, 12mo, 176 pp. This analysis of the British Army at the outbreak of World War I was written by Vivian, pseudonym of Charles Henry Cannell (1882-1947). Cannell served as a British soldier in the Boer War, and afterwards became a journalist and writer. He adopted the pen name Vivian in 1907, and became a prolific author of fantasy novels, publishing under a variety of pseudonyms. Book clean and binding tight with no markings. In a scarce dust jacket that shows just minor chipping, spine lightly sunned. Book condition VG+ in VG DJ.
