Illustrated with seven hundred and eighty illustrations in-text. A standard and concise English dictionary designed to provide the orthography, pronunciation, and meaning of words and phrases in the speech and literature of English speaking peoples. Abridges from the Funk & Wagnalls New Standard Dictionary of the English Language by James Champlin Fernald, and American clergyman and author considered an authority on the English language. Revised by Frank Horace Vizetelly, an English-American lexicographer, etymologist, and editor. In the original full brown calf binding with ivorine embellishment to the front board. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and minor fading to the spine and extremities. The odd mark to the board. Front hinge tender with spine loosening from textblock. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1927. Good
