About This Item
London: Secker & Warburg, 1959. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. 8" by 5.5". None. A first edition copy of David Beaty's commercial aviation novel, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. First edition, first impression. In the original unclipped dust wrapper.'Cone of Silence' is a suspenseful commercial aviation novel by David Beaty. The main protagonist, flight captain George Gort, must grapple with a inquiry that has been raised against him due to a crashed airline flight. Gort is given a second chance, but doubts about his abilities remain. David Beaty (1919-1999) was a British writer, pilot, and psychologist. He was a pioneer in the field of human factors, which he argued played a vital role in crashes caused by pilot error. Beaty wrote novels at the end of his commercial flying career until his death. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent. No noticeable faults. Dust wrapper is a bit edge worn along the margins of wraps, which has resulted in loss, particularly around the head of the spine's wrap. Fly leaves are age-toned. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout. Near Fine
