About This Item
Boston: Littell & Gay, later Littell, Son & Company, 1847. Hardcover. Very good overall. With much information on tea, China, Japan (the commercial mission to Japan) and Angas' Australia and New Zealand (essay on British artist's voyage to the colonies).
Littell's Living Age was a magazine that comprised sophisticated selections from various British and American magazines and newspapers, a "Reader's Digest" of it's day. It was generally published on a weekly basis for almost a century, from 1844 to 1941. It was also often the first US publication of serialized stories by important mid-19th century authors such as Trollope. 8vo, approximately 800 pp, bound in original pebbled black morocco with brown boards, gilt title & decoration on raised bands. Generally a little rubbed, front board tender, but holding.
