About This Item

Softcover. A collection of 6 signed softcover poetry books by Stephen Berg (or edited). Many rare to uncommon on the market in particular signed. All came from the Library of noted bibliophile and Updike collector Albert J Raman from Philadelphia. All are signed and 4 have an inscription made out to Albert. Crow with no Mouth, 1989 Copper Canyon. The unusually rare 1989 softcover edition, even more so signed (I could not find any other signed copies available at time of posting). Signed on title page with his name signed twice, For Albert - Steve. A fine copy. An eccentric classic of Zen poetry. When Zen master Ikkyu Sojun (1394-1481) was appointed headmaster of the great temple at Kyoto, he lasted nine days before denouncing the rampant hypocrisy he saw among the monks there. He in turn invited them to look for him in the sake parlors of the Pleasure Quarters. A Zen monk-poet-calligrapher-musician, he dared to write about the joys of erotic love, along with more traditional Zen themes. He was a rebel genius who dared to defy authority and despised corruption. Although he lived during times plagued by war, famine, rioting, and religious upheaval, his writing and music prevailed, influencing Japanese culture to this day. His work is translated here by poet Stephen Berg. Singular Voices edited by Stephen Berg, Avon 1985 stated first printing March 1985. New poems with self-interpretive essays by 31 noted American Poets. An uncommon title in particular signed. A fine unread copy, flat signed by Berg on the title pageThe Steel Cricket, Copper Canyon Press 1997. Fine book in pictorial wrappers. Inscribed to Albert J Raman; For Albert best wishes Steve", he again signed his name higher up on the page. Prospectus page for the publication laid in. Oblivion, University of Illinois Press, 1995 first printing. Selection of poetry by Berg. Unusual to find signed copies on the market, this particular copy is signed twice. First signature is; "For Albert all of us in oblivion - Steve" and again flat signed on title page. Near fine and unread. In It, University of Illinois Press, 1986 first printing. Inscribed to Albert J Raman; "For Albert, In It Steve". It also has an unusual ink art, Stephen labelled Africa and Skull. Rare signed copy with an unique inscription. Nothing in the Word, Grossman Publishers 1972. A collection of 50 Aztec poems rendered into English by Stephen Berg from the well-known Spanish version of the 16th Century Nahuatl by Angel Maria Garibay. The softcover edition, price-clipped and signed by Berg on the title page. Some wear to the paper covers, but internally pristine. An unusual title, rare to find signed. ; Signed by Author .
