A useful and charming guide to daily wants and needs of a household, with content ranging from economics, scientific theories, and medical advice, to cookery, hairdressing, and grammar. In alphabetical order.Illustrated with numerous vignettes in text. Featuring two title pages, first states 'in three volumes,' the second without statement. Continuous pagination, this volume complete from A to Z. Dated from a copy found at the British Library catalogued on Jisc, with matching pagination.Published anonymously, compiled by Robert Kemp Philip, English journalist known for his affordable handbooks, his most popular was 'Enquire Within Upon Everything'. Rebound in half morocco binding over marbled boards. Externally with shelf wear, rubbed and scuffed to spine and extremities. Front hinge slightly strained, holding firm. Previous owner's gift inscription to recto front blank page dated 1860. Internally, firmly bound. Odd spotting scattered to occasional leaf, pages otherwise generally very clean throughout. Good
