About This Item
New York: Macmillan Publishing Co., Inc, 1974. Hardcover. ix, 246p., very good hardcover in price-clipped dustjacket. Hearst reporter Baker had startling access to Hearst and other bigwigs, who appear to have thought they could rely on her to get the story right. "Although Cinque's background was cut and dried" [she muses incorrectly], "Chris Thompson's was not. Why had Thompson called me to interview him? It was fairly well known that I was not basically sympathetic to radicals and certainly not sympathetic to any type of terrorism. I had publicly labeled the SLA exploiters of the people a week after Patty Hearst was kidnapped. Surely Thompson couldn't have expected me to sympathize with him as he sat there calmly giving me the details of the SLA membership" p.94.
