New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1873. First US Edition . Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, brown cloth boards with paper label on spine. Exterior is scuffed and soiled with a some small bubbles in the cloth. Paper label is quite darkened as is spine and spine edges show chipping. Edges and corners show bumps/wear. The internal front hinge is a thin crack to the paper on the frontispiece, rear hinge appears good. Presumed first US edition with date of 1873 appearing on the title page. Several sections of the pages are still uncut though page 294/295 and 326/327 show tearing at the bottom where the original owner attempted to separate the pages by hand. This is a uncommon US printing as there are no publishers advertising pages, nothing printed on what would normally be the copyright page and line 1 of page 208 contains the correct spelling of "that". The seven plates are numbered with Roman numeral and are all attached and in good condition. All illustrations, including the plates, have been verified as being present and good. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings, no handwriting found.

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. Non-US sales will ship by First Class International or Global Priority. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 4 lbs.
We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. All orders, even those shipped by US Media Mail, will be given a USPS tracking number which will be sent to the buyer so they will know when to expect arrival. Please let us know if there is a book with incorrect or missing photos. We recently moved the inventory to Biblio and a title or two may have had issues with the photos being transferred over.

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.
