The first edition of this scarce work.Inscribed 'to his friend, Basil Hastings, from Eden Phillpotts', dated 1914. Hastings was an English author, journalist, and playwright. He was a regular correspondent of Joseph Conrad, and collaborated on two plays with Phillpotts himself.Illustrated with sixteen plates by Charles J. Folkard. Collated, complete.With an advertisement leaf to the rear.A fantastical fairy tale about Dartmoor, which includes fairies, a 'zagabog', and a hot water bottle named Bismark. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with pictorial gilt detailing to the front board. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with a touch of fraying in these regions. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with instances of spotting throughout, most concentrated to pages facing plates. Pencil notations throughout. Very Good
