Catharine H. Esling (April 12, 1812 - April 6, 1897) was an American author and poet who contributed to the periodical literature, as well as a hymn writer.
Catharine (sometimes misspelled "Catherine") Harbison Waterman (sometimes misspelled "Watterman") was born in Philadelphia, April 12, 1812. Under her maiden name, she became known as an author in various periodicals. Her first published pieces appeared in the New York Mirror. She has since contributed to the Annuals, and to Graham's and Godey's Magazine. She wrote hymns, such as "Come Unto Me", which were published in an annual called The Christian Keepsake (1839). She also stated that her hymns never would have been published but for her mother. In 1841, she edited a volume, Friendship's Offering for 1842. In 1850, her poems were collected and published under the title, The Broken Bracelet and Other Poems.
In 1840, she married Captain George J. Esling, of her native city, who was serving in the Merchant Marine.

Hirmer Publishers, 2015. 1st. 9 Paperbacks in Solander case. Fine. Fine. 9 books in Solander case. Only leafed through once. Books like new, some smudges on the outside of the Solander box, Ships from Hawaii. Weight For gardeners, Ireland's Roaring Water Bay, in West Cork, is a paradise: buoyed by the Gulf Stream and long hours of sunshine, its micro-climate permits unique plants―even palm trees―to grow and thrive there. And the past twenty years have seen the slow creation of a true masterpiece of "wild gardening" in the area: Glenkeen Garden, designed by Ulrike Crespo and Michael Satke. This book brings five photographers together to document the growth and development of the garden, each bringing to the project his own personal viewpoint. The result, a stunning and limited edition boxed set featuring several fold-outs, will enchant garden lovers with its images of luxuriant vegetation, innovative landscape architecture―including copses, avenues, and ponds―and inviting bridges and garden…

Description:
Chatwin Books, 2021. First Edition. Trade Paperback. New. New! 'I know from my own experience that an evening spent tending my garden, after another incomprehensible day, brings a strength and calmness that no other activity can match. Is it the qualities associated with gardening, such as nurturing and the hard work of hands and heart, that are deficient in our culture? Much good writing has been done about the garden as a special place.' Madeleine Wilde's woodland garden on the south slope of Seattle's Queen Anne Hill was more than a "special place." It was her Sanctuary, her prism through which she explored the world and accomplished "much good writing." For two decades, starting in the early 1990s, Madeleine's "Notes from the Garden" delighted readers of the Queen Anne & Magnolia News in Seattle. Here, in luminous prose, is the best of her work from those years, ranging from hands-on advice for gardeners and would-be gardeners to poetically charged, often wry, insights into life in the tradition…

London: Barn Elms, 1996. Very well illustrated, large horizontal quarto, pp 135, a very good copy in dustwrapper. Very well illustrated, large horizontal quarto, pp 135, a very good copy in dustwrapper. [Landscape historian Batey explores real and fictional settings of Austen's novels. In each chapter she uses a different Austen novel to discuss the style of gardens and landscapes during the early 19th century and Regency England. A continuing theme is the tension between Georgian propriety and the challenging Romantic ideals as they played out in the English landscape. Jane Austen was deeply inspired by the landscape and rural comforts of southern England. Her family's final move to Chawton, in the depths of the Hampshire countryside and so near the Steventon rectory of her childhood, gave her great satisfaction and led to her most creative period. This comprehensive work provides a guide to the ideas and subtleties behind the real and fictional settings of Jane Austen's novels, with…
