"The Highest Approved Royal West Prussian Elbing Newspaper from the State and Scholars," edited by Friedrich Traugott Hartmann, began publication in the early 19th century. Toned, stained, soiled, tattered, small losses not affecting text, shallow diagonal corner creasing throughout, about good & still quite useful.
An early edition, perhaps the first American, of part of Dumas' "Celebrated Crimes" series, originally published in 1839 & 1840. The series provides semi-fictionalized accounts of the most noteworthy criminal cases in European history.

Publisher's pictorial stapled paper wraps, with whimisical cover illustration by Auguste Liquois.
Slight edge wear, lightly foxed, small loss in the lower margin of leaf 9/10 (not affecting text or illustration), Illegible signature in ink dated June 3. 1938 at the lower wrap, otherwise very good.
A well-illustrated program for the show at this delightful Cabaret which featured "25 Tableaux musiques et mis en scene" by Willy Leardy. The numbers were performed by Rose Mania, Barbara Waren, Mado Desly, Maria Gregor, & others who were supported by chorus line of gorgeous young women generally attired only in feathers.

Gilt dull on 4 volumes, moderate wear at spine extremities & corners, couple of hinges cracked, previous owner's bookplate in all volumes, foxing, certainly Good or better. From the library of Richard Cecil Garlick, Jr who was professor of French at the University of Virginia. Henry Carrington Lancaster, chair of the Romance Languages Department and professor of French at Johns Hopkins, was the world's foremost expert on French dramatic literature of the 16th through 18th centuries. He was also the first non French citizen to be awarded the Legion d'Honneur Three further volumes, extending the exhaustive treatise through 1700 (not offered here). were eventually published.

New York: published by the photographer, no date, ca. 1885. The images measure 7.75 inches by 9.5 inches (or the reverse) & are mounted to thick card stock (14" x 17") Most of the photos are numbered in the negative & the mounts each bear the imprint of the photographer, with his Bond Street, New York address. The images are a bit light The mounts are wavy, soiled, foxed, & one has the lower corner chipped away, otherwise Good or better. A nice example of French mid 18th century binding & printing, particularly interesting are the lovely endpapers & headpieces at each chapter.
