Journalist John Heilemann is writing a book about the 2020 election, the Associated Press reports.

Kirkus Review: Heilemann is known for co-authoring the election books Game Change and Double Down with fellow reporter Mark Halperin. The books covered the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, respectively, and were both bestsellers.

The forthcoming book from Simon and Schuster, which doesn't yet have a title or publication date, will focus on President-elect Joe Biden's dramatic victories in the Democratic primaries and in the general election.

"I first met Joe Biden in 1986 when I was in college and he was getting ready to run for president the first time, and I've been following his ups and downs, his triumphs and tragedies, ever since," Heilemann said. "The story of how, against all odds and against the apocalyptic backdrop of America in 2020, Biden rallied in the winter of his life to defeat Trump—and, in the eyes of many, to save the country—is one of the great political tales of this or any age, and I'm thrilled to have a chance to tell it."

Heilemann isn't the only reporter to be working on a book about Biden's election. Earlier this month, Maggie Haberman of the New York Times announced that she's working on a book about President Donald Trump, which will include the story of his loss in the 2020 race.

The AP reports that screen rights to Heilemann's forthcoming book have already been snapped up by Showtime.
