McCarty; viii, 549, [1] p.; vi, 530 p.; 20 cm. Publisher's red-brown cloth with gilt-stamped spine title: Robertson's Charles the Fifth. Coat-of-arms gilt-stamped on spines; initials of William H. Prescott gilt-stamped on front boards. Spines and front boards have black-stamped decoration including a different coat-of-arms; back board have blind-stamped decoration mirroring the front boards without the initials. "New and Revised Edition"--on spines. Boards have beveled edges. Dark brown endpapers. Each front fixed endpaper bears a bookplate reading "Shapleigh" with a black-and-white photo of a rural scene. Blank leaf following front endpapers in each volume inscribed by former owner: "Adelaide Shapleigh Sept. 1898." In Very Good- Condition: rubbed; ends of spines and corners are fraying; clean and tight.
