Maps on endpapers. "Chautauqua Reading Circle Literature" on front cover and at head of title page. A list of Chautauqua Reading Circle Literature on page following front endpapers. Oval stamp on front fixed endpaper and title page of Dickinson College Library. Call number written in white at tail of spine. Contents: The Colonial Period -- 1790-1890 -- The Labor Movement -- The Influence of Machinery on Labor. The author, Carroll D. Wright (1840-1909), was chief of the Massachusetts Bureau of Statistics of Labor from 1873 to 1878; the first U.S. Commissioner of Labor from 1885 to 1905; and chairman of the commission to investigate the Pullman strike in Chicago. In Good Condition: ends of spine and edges are fraying; cover lightly soiled; pages are clean. and tight.
