About This Item

New York: The Athenian Press, 1943. Hardcover. Good-. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Tall hardcover, no dust jacket. Blue and white cloth boards, decorated on both sides boards show considerable wear to the outside edge and upper corners. The interior pages of the book shows scattered smudge prints and corner bumps, along with some foxing present. End pages show browning in spots as well. The book is signed in two places by F. X. Winkler and on the page proceeding the prologue there is a full page inscription by the author which reads as follows: "To my good friend F. X. Winkler - Distinguished Soldier and Prince of the Air - May this volume serve as a constant reminder of our pleasant trips though the "air" and in anticipation of many more to come. With friendliest sentiments - G. J. Karamanos". Inscription is then dated Jan 28, 1947 in New York, NY. F. X. Winkler was a noted military officer who went on to fly as a captain TWA. Sadly, On November 28, 1947 (the same year as the book dedication) he perished in an aviation accident involving a TWA Lockheed L-049 Constellation aircraft in Wilmington, DE. Book condition graded as good minus - this is because of the cover issues.

Terms of Sale

Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. Non-US sales will ship by First Class International or Global Priority. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 4 lbs.

We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. All orders, even those shipped by US Media Mail, will be given a USPS tracking number which will be sent to the buyer so they will know when to expect arrival. Please let us know if there is a book with incorrect or missing photos. We recently moved the inventory to Biblio and a title or two may have had issues with the photos being transferred over.

Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. The software spells words by phonetics and can make errors that I may not catch.

There is a 30 day money back guarantee if the book arrives damaged or is not as described. Please contact us prior if you have any issues with your purchases and we will make sure you are taken care of.

About Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.

All of the book pictures were taken at the time the book was listed and we never use generic or stock photos in any listing. If you would like additional photos or information on any listing please let us know and we will be more than happy to comply.
